Samsung Galaxy Note 7s not allowed on Amtrak either

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has already been banned from numerous airlines after the exploding battery fiasco and now it turns out that you won’t be able to take the phone on a train in North America either. Amtrak is issuing alerts that Note 7s won’t be permitted on its routes across the country.

This ban doesn’t just apply to Amtrak trains though, thruway busses and even stations and platforms are included in the list too. So don’t plan on waving anyone off at the platform if you’re a Note 7 owner. Again, consumer safety is stated as a top priority, which is great of course, but we should keep some perspective and remember that the odds of any remaining devices out there exploding are still quite low.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones are no longer permitted on Amtrak trains, Thruway buses, stations & platforms due to potential safety risks.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has already been banned from all US airline flights, so including other modes of mass transport seems like a logical next step. An increasing number of bans might just help persuade stubborn Note 7 owners to return their phones as well.
However, it’s not really clear how well Amtrak will be able to enforce such a rule properly. Commuters aren’t likely to take too kindly to baggage and person searches just for a rare phone, and it would be ridiculous to check everyone’s pockets at a station.

What do you think about the increasing number of Galaxy Note 7 bans?
